Animation studio cleared of piracy allegations

A Makati City court has cleared an animation studio of allegations that it used fake software nearly two months after it was raided by anti-piracy law enforcers. In an order dated July 12, the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 138 allowed animation studio MoAnima to retrieve equipment seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after the company presented documents proving that it used fully-licensed software. Last May 19, the NBI had announced that it raided 17 establishments, including MoAnima, that were accused of using P51-million worth of pirated software. The business establishments are found in Quezon City, Pasig City, and Makati City. The company’s legal counsel provided a copy of the Makati Court ruling and a certificate of authentication from Autodesk, Inc., owner of the software used by MoAnima, to GMANews.TV after the order came out. “MoAnima is currently working with Autodesk’s legal counsel to retrieve 2 computers that were wrongfully seized by the NBI," the company said in a press release. – ACC/YA, GMANews.TV
