9 families evacuate homes due to smell from Valenzuela warehouse

At least nine families were forced to flee their homes in Valenzuela City Tuesday night due to a foul smell from an onion storehouse in the area. Radio dzBB reported Wednesday Luis Jacinto, executive officer of Canumay village, said residents started complaining of the bad smell at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Jacinto said the residents complained of dizzy spells and chest pains, and fled to the barangay hall, but returned to their homes after a few hours. He said it was possible the bad smell came from ammonia stored in the warehouse. Initial investigation showed the smell came from the warehouse at M. Gregorio Street. Local authorities are still investigating the matter. In a later report Wednesday morning, GMA News' Flash Report said a leaking refrigerant pipe on the onion depot owned by JB International Agricultural Products was the source of the foul smell. But the firm assured residents the odor would not cause harm, even as it apologized for the inconvenience, the report said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
