5 areas under Signal No. 2 as Domeng intensifies into storm


Tropical depression Domeng on Wednesday intensified into a storm after merging with a low-pressure area east of Batanes, prompting state weather forecasters to put five areas in Luzon under Storm Signal No. 2. In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Domeng was spotted 430 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes. Domeng packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is moving west at 19 kph. The storm is expected to be 40 km east of Basco, Batanes by Thursday afternoon, and 400 km west of Basco, Batanes by Friday afternoon.
