82 distressed OFWs back home from Saudi Arabia

A batch of 82 distressed overseas Filipino workers was repatriated from Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) Friday night. The Department of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said the latest batch, with 26 children, brought to 142 the number of OFWs brought home from Jeddah. "These Filipinos are distressed OFWs in Saudi Arabia who have enlisted the assistance of the Consulate General and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) there so that their deportation to the Philippines would be expeditiously processed," the DFA said. Last Wednesday, 60 OFWs arrived from the Jeddah Deportation Center, 14 of them children. The mass repatriation is a result of efforts by the Consulate and the POLO in the Kingdom. Philippine authorities had sought to facilitate the early admission of overstaying Filipinos into the Jeddah Deportation Center so they could be repatriated immediately. The Consulate-General and the POLO are working out the summary deportation of other batches of overstaying OFWs in KSA. On the other hand, the DFA said it is working out the summary repatriation of overstaying OFWs before the observance of Ramadan, which will start August 11. — LBG, GMANews.TV
