Another journalist may join ranks of Aquino spokespersons
Another media person may soon join Malacañangâs public information machinery as part of President Benigno Aquino IIIâs corps of spokespersons, the Palace said Saturday. Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the Presidential Communications Group is considering two candidates for the post, and confirmed at least one of them is from the media industry. âMay dalawang tinitingnan ngayon ... May tinitingnan kami taga-media (We are looking at two candidates, including someone from the media)," he said on government-run dzRB radio. He declined to name the media person, even as he said they will have to inform President Aquino of their choice and ask for his approval. Lacierda said a spokesperson will have to know not only Aquinoâs advocacy and platform of government, but also âknow the mind of the president." âWe will ask the approval of the president, we want to make sure he will approve the spokespersons," he added. The Presidential Communications Group already has at least two officials who have media backgrounds â former television news hosts Ricky Carandang and Manuel Quezon III. Carandang had gotten into controversy over a reported leak of President Aquinoâs State of the Nation Address (SONA) to a media outfit he was formerly connected with. Lacierda had also skirmished with the Malacañang Press Corps twice in July for preempting major announcements to a private media network perceived to have supported Aquinoâs presidential bid.âJV, GMANews.TV
