Palace downplays UK travel ban over Zambo bombing

Malacañang on Sunday sought to downplay a travel advisory by the United Kingdom in the wake of a deadly bombing at the Zamboanga International Airport last Thursday. Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the case had been resolved, and that the incident has been deemed more political than terrorist in nature. "Klarong klaro sa investigation, this is not a case of suicide bombing (It was clear in the investigation that Thursday's bombing was not a suicide attack)," he said on government-run dzRB radio. Lacierda added the UK government "will be apprised" of the results of the investigation. On Friday, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) issued a travel advisory warning its nationals against travel to some parts of Mindanao after the bombing. The FCO, noting a British national was among those injured in Thursday's blast, also indicated in its travel advisory that terrorists may attack at any time. "We advise against all but essential travel to the remainder of Mindanao. This is because of ongoing terrorist activity there have been a number of terrorist attacks against civilian targets, the most recent on 5 August 2010 at Zamboanga airport where an explosion injured 15 people including a British national," it said. "We advise against all travel to specific areas of the Philippines and against all but essential travel to other specific areas of the Philippines," it added. [see: UK advisory] — LBG, GMANews.TV
