Pawnshop robber nabbed while going back for misplaced phone

It took two armed men just 15 seconds to pull off a daring daylight robbery on a pawnshop in Negros Oriental last weekend, taking some P400,000 in jewelry. However, it took the police just a little over 24 hours to capture one of them, who realized he left his mobile phone at the crime scene. One of the suspects, identified as Roy Cupat, 29, was arrested by the police at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday as he returned to retrieve the pink Nokia 3210 cell phone he left at the crime scene. Cupat and a companion reportedly robbed the Agencia Belen Pawnshop along Governor Mariano Perdices Street in Dumaguete City on Saturday, the Visayan Daily Star reported Monday. The men allegedly entered the shop with a cal-.45 pistol and told everyone to drop to the floor. The second suspect reportedly brought a hammer, broke the glass display counter, and scooped out assorted jewelry. Both men also reportedly took the guard's cal-.38 revolver. The two then allegedly ran to a waiting motorcycle without any license plate and fled. When Cupat was captured, police seized a violet Nokia 6020 phone, two black helmets, and a silver-gray RUSI motorcycle (plate HI-5202). –VVP, GMANews.TV
