No Filipino casualties in China floods — DFA

There were no Filipino casualties in the floods that ravaged northwestern China, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday. In a text message to GMANews.TV, DFA spokesperson Ed Malaya said the Philippine Embassy in Beijing has informed them that no Filipino was injured, killed, or was reported missing as a result of the floods and landslides in Gansu province. The floods and landslides have claimed the lives of 337 people while some 1,100 have been reported missing. Heavy rains have also wreaked havoc in the nearby country of Pakistan, where two weeks of heavy flooding killed 1,500 people. The United Nations declared the flooding in Pakistan as “the country’s worst-ever flood," exceeding the amount damage of the three recent “mega-disasters" — the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake — combined. - Andreo Calonzo/KBK, GMANews.TV
