NCR cops map out areas for revitalized checkpoint operations

In a bid to thwart crime in the months leading to the Christmas season, cops from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have started mapping out areas where they will set checkpoints. Radio dzBB reported Thursday that Metro Manila police chief Director Leocadio Santiago Jr. expects his police directors to submit their assessment reports to him the soonest time possible. Santiago said he is leaving it to the police district directors under him to determine which areas the checkpoints will be most effective in preventing crime. The report said random checkpoints are being eyed in the cities of Quezon, Caloocan, Navotas, Valenzuela, Las Piñas and Parañaque. Checkpoints in these areas would be aided with closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and K-9 units to detect drugs, explosives and contraband. Earlier, the Philippine National Police cited a survey indicating four out of five Filipinos were satisfied with the checkpoint operations in the last election period. The PNP is aiming to minimize criminality especially with the coming “ber-months" season, as well as during the village and youth council elections to be held October 25. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
