August 30 remains a non-working holiday
Malacañang announced on Friday that August 30, National Heroes' Day, remains a non-working holiday. At a press briefing, Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said August 30 "falls on a Monday so it's not going to be moved." The announcement was based on Republic Act 9492 that rationalizes the celebration of holidays. The law, signed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in July 2007, requires that most holidays, except those with a religious significance, be moved to the nearest Monday. August 30 is one of the holidays listed in Arroyo's Proclamation No. 1841 which contains her holiday economics policy and lists the holidays for 2010. [See: Palace declares holidays for 2010] Under this proclamation, the following dates are considered as âmovable holidays" for 2010: Bataan Day (April 9), Labor Day (1 May), Independence Day (June 12), National Heroes Day, Bonifacio Day (November 30) and Rizal Day (December 30). Exempted from the holiday economics law are Christmas Day (December 25), New Yearâs Eve (December 31), New Yearâs Day (January 1), Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Eidâl Fitre (October 13) and All Saints Day (November 1). â Jam Sisante/LBG/VVP, GMANews.TV
