Report: Half of P500K reward in Palawan massacre case released


Palawan officials have released half of a P500,000 reward to police investigators and witnesses who helped in the probe of the massacre of a retired Navy officer and four relatives in Puerto Princesa City last August 9. A report on dzXL radio said Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn awarded only P250,000 for the “partial" resolution of the massacre of members of the the Paiton family. The reward money will be divided among the informants and the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. While they were not named, the informants were only described as “Jennifer," “Roger," tricycle driver “Apolinar," “Jocjoc," and a woman under the care of a policeman. Police have so far arrested Florencio Magada, caretaker of the family’s property in Puerto Princesa City. At least four suspects in the murder have remained at large. Meanwhile, the report said a court order has been issued to Globe Telecom to provide records of cell phone calls to Carmelita Paiton, wife of retired Lt. Cmdr. Ernesto Paiton. The Paiton couple and three of their relatives were found dead inside their house, bound and with slashed throats. — LBG, GMANews.TV
