Ninoy Aquino timeline: How he lived and died


His death led to the downfall of a dictatorship and the restoration of Philippine democracy. His widow Cory went on to become the Philippine Republic's 11th president. Last June 30, his son and namesake Noynoy became the 15th president. There is now little argument that Ninoy Aquino is up there with Rizal and Bonifacio as among the Philippines' most important and esteemed historical figures. While he is best known for how he died -- at the hands of military assassins as soon as he arrived in Manila after three years of exile -- Ninoy also led a colorful and accomplished life.
