NDCC: 1 dead in Zamboanga fire


A 70-year-old man was killed while 44 families were affected in a fire that razed 30 houses in Zamboanga City Wednesday, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said Thursday night. The NDCC said the fire occurred at 10:35 a.m. at Sta. Barbara village in Zamboanga City. It identified the fatality as Jakkal Sabtal, reportedly the owner of the house where the fire started from. Affected by the fire were at least 44 families, including 29 boarders, 12 renters and five house-sharers, the NDCC report said. The affected families were brought to the Sta. Barbara Elementary School and Barangay Hall. NDCC said the razed houses were made of semi-concrete and light materials. Firefighters managed to put out the fire at 1:45 p.m. The fire reached the fifth alarm. Arson investigators estimated the damage to property at P800,000. - KBK, GMANews.TV
