PAGASA: LPA to bring rains over parts of RP

A low-pressure area (LPA) west of Northern Luzon may bring rainshowers and thunderstorms to parts of the country on Saturday. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was 240 km west of Northern Luzon as of 2 a.m. "The whole country will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin, noting the LPA is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting the whole country. While PAGASA did not say if the LPA can still intensify into a cyclone, weather site Typhoon2000 said its chances of becoming one are now at 50 percent. Should the LPA become a cyclone, it will be codenamed "Florita." Meanwhile, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southeast to south will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Light to moderate winds coming from the southwest will prevail over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas. — LBG, GMANews.TV
