Two quakes rock Agusan, Moro gulf


Two quakes rocked parts of Mindanao Monday but no damage or casualty was initially reported. A magnitude-3.8 earthquake rocked parts of Agusan del Norte province in Mindanao Monday afternoon. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 12:47 p.m. and was tectonic in origin. Phivolcs said the epicenter was some 37 kilometers (km) northwest of Butuan City, and was felt at Intensity IV in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte; and in Santiago del Norte. It was felt at Intensity III in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte; and Intensity II in Surigao City. No aftershock was expected from Monday's quake, Phivolcs said. Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey said a magnitude-4.8 quake was recorded at 5:48 a.m. with the epicenter traced to 70 km southwest of Cotabato. USGS said the epicenter was also 115 km south-southeast of Pagadian, 175 km west-northwest of General Santos, or 915 km south-southeast of Manila. –VVP, GMANews.TV
