PNP asked to evaluate grievance procedure after Manila hostage drama

Senator Francis Escudero on Monday said the Philippine National Police (PNP) should evaluate its grievance procedures after a dismissed policeman held a busload of Chinese tourists hostage in Manila for several hours. "Sa parte ng PNP mismo, rason ito para tingnan nila yung kanilang grievance procedure (On the part of the PNP, this should be reason enough to take another look at their grievance procedure)," Escudero told reporters in an interview. The hostage-taker, former Senior Inspector Rolando del Rosario Mendoza, was killed by a sniper early Monday evening. At least seven hostages were also killed. Mendoza was facing charges of misconduct at the Office of the Ombudsman. He was dismissed from the service due to charges of extortion and illegal arrest. One of Mendoza's three demands during the hostage crisis was the the dismissal of his case before the Ombudsman. - Kimberly Tan/KBK, GMANews.TV
