Retired cop shot dead in Quezon

A retired policeman was killed in Quezon province after at least three motorcycle-riding men shot him early Tuesday. Police Inspector Marcelino Uy said the victim, initially identified as retired Senior Inspector Irineo Valerio, was aboard a Mitsubishi Adventure when shot. "Bumaba pa ang tatlong suspects at binaril uli, para tiyaking namatay siya (After shooting him, the three suspects even got off their motorcycle and fired again to make sure he was dead)," Uy said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said the incident occurred past 7 a.m. as Valerio's vehicle passed the elementary school of Dalahican village in Lucena City. Recovered fromm the crime scene were 22 empty shells for cal .45. Valerio's body was brought to Funeral Pagbilao for autopsy examination. Uy said they have set up checkpoints to apprehend the suspects. He said investigators are looking at three possible motives: a work-related case, a business dispute, and personal grudge. He did not elaborate. - KBK, GMANews.TV
