Aces sign up Baguio for fresh 3-year contract

Cyrus Baguio, the last piece in Alaska’s championship puzzle, isn’t going anywhere. The Aces made sure he’ll stay home – with Alaska – for the next three years as the high-flying wingman was signed up to a three-year, maximum contract extension worth P12.6-million. A highly-placed source from the Aces camp said that the management and the player have already “agreed in principle." Baguio, a 6-foot-2, former slamdunk champion, was acquired by Alaska from Ginebra in a blockbuster trade with Willie Miller. This means the Aces will have Baguio and 6-foot-9 center Samigue Eman at least for the next three years. Eman, acquired by the Aces midway this season, had also been given contract extension shortly after Alaska absorbed his original contract from San Miguel Beer. Meanwhile, defending champion B-Meg Derby Ace has agreed to re-sign guards Paul Artadi and Jonathan Fernandez to contract extensions. Terms of their contracts weren’t revealed. Expected to be signed up next is two-time Most Valuable Player James Yap. Fresh from winning his second MVP in the recently concluded PBA Leo Awards, Yap will be signed up for another three years by B-Meg Derby Ace governor and league chairman Rene Pardo, who is the one personally negotiating with the star cager. Yap is still on vacation in the United States. “When it comes to James, I am the one negotiating and I asked Alvin (Patrimonio) regarding this arrangement," said Pardo. “He will be signed up once he comes back from a vacation." - Rey Joble, GMANews.TV
