PAGASA: 1 of 2 LPAs gone, but rains still loom over RP

One of two low-pressure areas (LPAs) that threatened to become cyclones has dissipated, but rains still loom over the country, state weather forecasters said Thursday. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said they are keeping tabs on the remaining LPA to see if it will intensify. "Isa na lang po, natunaw ang isa. Sa ngayon ay di pa natin nakikita magiging bagyo (Only one LPA is left, the other had dissolved. For now we are monitoring the one left)," PAGASA forecaster Mario Palafox said in an interview on dzBB radio. Should the LPA intensify into a cyclone, it will be codenamed "Florita." PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said the LPA was estimated at 320 km east-southeast of Tuguegarao City as of 2 a.m. It is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting the country. "The whole country will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms... with occasional to frequent rains over the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon," it said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
