Report: Davao CCTV center caught unmanned

Personnel at the closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring center in Davao City found themselves in hot water after the facility was found unmanned last Friday. Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte demanded an explanation after seeing no one was supervising the high-tech Public Safety Command Center (PSCC) at 2 a.m. “I demand an explanation in 24 hours. This is a government entity which is unmanned. After I hear the explanation, I will say my piece on the issue," an irritated Duterte said, according to a report on Mindanao Daily Mirror. Duterte, who had the facility set up when he was the city's mayor, said he went to the PSCC with some friends at about 2:15 a.m. Friday. He was surprised to learn no one was inside except the security guard and the personnel from Task Force Davao (TFD) who were stationed at the gate. When he went inside the building, he found a technician sleeping as he was doing overtime work. The technician told him he was there to sort out some connections in preparation for the eventual transfer of the 911 call center to the PSCC building. Also, the technician told Duterte he cannot access to the CCTV monitor area. This angered Duterte, who went to the 911 building a few steps away from the PSCC where a television news crew was tailing a hacking victim being given first aid at the infirmary. PSCC was inaugurated last July 28, with retired Colonel Verner Monstanto appointed as overall operations chief. — LBG, GMANews.TV
