Report: 2 HK probers held at NAIA

Two Hong Kong police investigators were held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Thursday after several shells from an Armalite rifle were found in their possession. The two investigators are part of the Hong Kong team that arrived in the Philippines last weekend to observe the Philippine authorities' investigation of the August 23 hostage crisis. Radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad reported the two Hong Kong policemen, one of whom was described as a chief inspector, were not allowed to board their Cathay Pacific flight. Airport authorities questioned the two on where they got the shells of the Armalite rifle, the report said. It was not immediately clear if the shells found with the police investigators were taken from a tourist bus hijacked by dismissed Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza in Manila on August 23. Mendoza hijacked a bus carrying 21 Hong Kong tourists and four Filipinos. After an 11-hour standoff, Mendoza and eight Hong Kong tourists were killed. –VVP, GMANews.TV
