2 minors killed over spider-fighting bet in Negros Occ.

Spider-fighting proved fatal in Negros Occidental province, with two boys aged 13 and 15 hacked dead over a P5 bet. The 15-year-old boy killed a 13-year-old over the unpaid bet. Upon knowing his son’s death, the father killed his son’s killer. Negros-based news site Visayan Daily Star reported the first killing occurred last Tuesday at Sitio Cambungol in Santol village in Binalbagan town. Gary Dolores, 15, then buried the body of playmate Jay Cabando, 13, in a compost pit. Village watchmen and officials exhumed Cabando's body Thursday. Initial investigation showed Cabando and Dolores placed a bet of P5 on a spider-fighting game but Cabando, who lost, refused to pay. Dolores, who had a bolo at the time, hacked Cabando dead. Dolores then forced his own cousin Bepe Delio, 20, to help him bury the 13-year-old. But Delio reported the death to Cabando's father Martin, 49. Martin confronted and hacked Dolores several times with a bolo. Police arrested the elder Cabando and brought Dolores to the Binalbagan Infirmary, where he was declared dead on arrival. Both Cabando and Delio are now detained at the Binalbagan police jail. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
