Quakes rock Davao, General Santos areas


At least three quakes rocked parts of Mindanao from Sunday evening to Monday morning, but there was no initial report of casualty or damage. On Monday, the United States Geological Service recorded a magnitude-4.7 quake at 11:08 a.m., with the epicenter at 110 km east of General Santos City. It said the epicenter was also some 125 km south southeast of Davao; 245 km east southeast of Cotabato; or 1,095 km south southeast of Manila. USGS said a magnitude-5 quake had also rocked the area Sunday night. The USGS said Sunday night's quake was recorded at 8:19 p.m., with the epicenter traced to 170 km east of General Santos City. It said the epicenter was also 170 km southeast of Davao; 1,140 km southeast of Manila; or 2,580 km east northeast of Jakarta in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a magnitude-4.8 quake rocked Davao Oriental province Sunday night. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported the Phivolcs recorded the quake at about 9:19 p.m. Sunday. Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic in origin. It traced the epicenter to 104 km southeast of Mati town, adding the quake was felt at Intensity II in Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
