Police warn against leaving babies unattended in cribs

The Manila Police District (MPD) issued a warning to parents and guardians against leaving babies unattended in their cribs. The warning came after an eight-month -old baby, identified as John Prince Henry, died in his crib on Sunday afternoon in Tondo, Manila. John was left alone in his crib as his mother, Richelle Eulogio Frogosa Henry, went to sleep at around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. According to the mother, she found her son unconscious and his head bloodied when she woke up at around 3:00 p.m. She claimed that there was no foul play and that her son could have injured his head as he played in his crib. She said she rushed her son to the Mary Johnston Hospital in Tondo, Manila but the baby was declared at around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Inspector Armando Macaraeg of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section, said they are confirming the statements of the mother. Police Officer 3 Lito Lopez, the case investigator, said the baby's "head was in between the wood rails. He was unconscious and bloodied." The investigator said the baby's head probably got pinned in between the rails while playing in the crib. The child’s mother refused to have case investigated, claiming that there was no foul play in her son's death. She signed a waiver at the MPD police headquarters. Meanwhile, Macaraeg warned mothers to take extra precaution when leaving their children inside their cribs. He also urged mothers to consider the safety of their children when buying cribs. –VVP, GMANews.TV
