Venus Raj not closing doors on politics

Don't be surprised if, one day, Miss Universe 2010 finalist Ma. Venus Raj runs for public office. In an interview with reporters before she accepted the approved House resolution commending her victory, Raj did not discount the possibility of entering politics. (See: Senate OKs resolution commending Venus Raj) "Siguro po. Tignan natin (Maybe. We'll see) in the future… I'm open to that," Raj said, adding that serving her townmates had always been her aspiration. "Actually, noong nasa Bicol ako, nag-run ako sa town lang namin, pero hindi ako nanalo kasi bata pa ako," Raj said, explaining that she was only 20 years old then. (When I was in Bicol, I ran in our hometown, but I didn't win because I was too young.) Asked what would her priorities be if ever she wins an elected post, the 22-year-old beauty queen said she would “start small," such as in advocating orderliness in her town. "Pero hindi ka pwede na mag-act alone. Definitely kailangan mo pa rin ng tulong ng ibang tao, definitely yung mga makakasama mo rin sa town," she said. (But you can't act alone. Definitely you would still the need for other people, definitely those who will join you in serving the town.) She would also push for the recognition of people who bring honor to the country, and an additional budget for the training of aspiring beauty queens. The beauty queen said she feels very honored by the commendation given to her and the warm welcome she received from the legislators. "I feel very honored, kasi bibigyan ka ng parangal ng mga taong pagkataas-taas ng posisyon sa bansa. Parang ang sarap sa pakiramdam… na ganun yung treatment nila, pagtanggap nila very warm," she said. (I feel very honored, because you are given honors by people who hold high national positions. It feels nice... about their treatment, their very warm welcome.)—Amita O. Legaspi/JV, GMANews.TV
