Cops, bank owners to tackle security issues

Police in Metro Manila have invited bank owners to a meeting to discuss the need to beef-up security measures, especially as the Christmas Season approaches. A report by radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad said the Metro Manila police want a closer coordination with bank executives in foiling bank robberies. The report said the police want to work out an arrangement where they can respond more quickly to robberies especially because robbery incidents have been noted to rise in the past during the Christmas season. However, the report did not say when the meeting will take place. On Monday, unidentified men shot and wounded two security guards and a bank employee after robbing an armored van at a mall in in Cavite. Cavite police chief Senior Superintendent Danilo Maligalig said the mall security may have committed lapses that allowed the robbers to strike. "Actually may lapses ang guards sa entry points doon. These people were brandishing pistols, maikling baril. Meron silang dalang machine pistols (We found lapses by the mall guards. The suspects were allowed to enter the premises even if they were carrying machine pistols)," he said in an interview on dzXL radio hours after the Monday heist. –VVP, GMANews. TV
