So far, Kenyans who have confirmed their participation are Henry Cherono, who has the best personal record among all foreign competitors at two hours, 10 minutes and 26 seconds, John Mutai (2:12:19), Bernard Kimuigei (2:16:00), Anna Jelagat Kibor (2:29:00) and Rael Kimaiyo (2:34:00). Ethopia will be represented by Tariku Abosete Bokan (2:12:24) and Radiya Adlo Roba (2:35:00), Ukraine will have Ivan Barbaryka (2:14:00) and Russia will pin its hopes on Tatiana Vilosova (2:30:00). The race, which will also have contests in 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K, will use the world-class timing device D-Tag, the same electronic device being used in the New York City Marathon. "Participants can expect a fast and flat course, equally fast release of race results courtesy of Chronotrack Timing Systems," says race organizer and running coach Rio Dela Cruz. Dela Cruz also promised adequate hydration in water stations located at every kilometer, which is accurately marked to help runners pace themselves.

More than promoting the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC) as a premiere sports and tourist destination, Camarines Sur Gov. Lray Villafuerte is aiming for international recognition for the CamSur Marathon and join the ranks of the NYC, Vienna and Boston marathons. "This event is slated to be the biggest and most prestigious marathon not just in the Philippines but in Southeast Asia," said Villafuerte. The race will likewise benefit Gawad Kalinga, an organization that builds houses for poor communities and aims to empower poverty stricken Filipinos through dignity restoration and values formation. One of the highlights of the event is the "Bayanihan Run" category where a team of 15 will race and commit to pledge in raising funds to build GK communities. Since June 24 and until two days before race day, the teams shall do advocacy work and raise funds to build a minimum of one house. The marathon is also for the benefit of Organ Donor card awareness. – JVP/Perry C. Legaspi, GMANews.TV
