Magnitude-5 quake rocks Gensan area


A magnitude-5 quake rocked parts of Mindanao near the General Santos City in South Cotabato before dawn on Monday but there were no reports of damages or casualties. The United States Geological Survey(USGS) said the quake was recorded at 12:35 a.m. Monday, with the epicenter at 75 kilometers (km) southwest of General Santos City. The USGS also described the epicenter as 180 km south-southeast of Cotabato, or 1,065 km south-southeast of Manila, or 2,370 km east-northeast of Jakarta, Indonesia. On September 5 and 6, the USGS also recorded quakes near General Santos City. At about 8 p.m. on September 5, the USGS said a magnitude-5 quake rocked an area 170 km east of General Santos City. On September 6, the USGS reported of a magnitude-4.7 quake, with the epicenter at 110 km east of General Santos City. –VVP, GMANews.TV
