Cops to set up more checkpoints around Metro Manila

After a series of robberies in buses and business establishments, the police said "checkpoints and chokepoints" will be set up in key areas in Metro Manila. Metro Manila police chief Director Leocadio Santiago Jr. ordered the setting up of checkpoints after robbers struck anew on Sunday night at a fast-food chain in Quezon City. Radio dzBB reported early Monday the incident occurred at around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday at a KFC outlet in Libis, Quezon City where two motorcycle-riding men allegedly ran off with P150,000. The unidentified men also took the cal-.38 revolver of the outlet's security guard. No one was hurt in the robbery. Witnesses failed to get the getaway motorcycle's plate number. Meanwhile, Santiago ordered the setting up of more checkpoints and chokepoints in key areas in Metro Manila. His order came after a series of bus robberies in Las Piñas City, Taytay in Rizal and Mandaluyong City, the last two occurring only on Friday. Santiago also ordered that additional checkpoints be set up at malls, airports, bus terminals, schools, piers, churches, and parks, as the Christmas season nears. –VVP, GMANews.TV
