NDCC: Three killed, 10 hurt in La Union road accident

At least three people were killed and 10 others were hurt in a three-vehicle smashup in La Union province over the weekend, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said. The NDCC announced on Monday that the incident occurred at 4:01 p.m. Saturday along McArthur Highway in Santiago village in Bauang town in La Union. The victims were identified as bus driver Richard Sison, bus passenger Rosalina Nuñez; and bicycle rider Lorme Collado. Those involved in the smashup were Sison's passenger bus (plate number AVR-224); a red Mitsubishi Lancer (plate number AAE-973), driven by Roderick Andallo Flores; and a white Mitsubishi L-300 van (with plate number AEM-123), driven by Reynaldo Navalta. The injured included Navalta, two unidentified passengers of the L-300 van, an unidentified passenger of the Lancer, and six unidentified passengers of the bus. NDCC said the injured were rushed to the Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center in San Fernando, La Union. The NDCC said the bus was heading south while the two other vehicles were heading north. The initial investigation showed that the bus was crossing the national highway when it collided with the Lancer, then bumped the L-300 van and hit Collado's bicycle. Sison was killed when he jumped off the bus. –VVP, GMANews.TV
