Cops arrest 'bundol gang' members behind attack on Luli in-law

The Philippine National Police (PNP) claimed to have neutralized on Monday the robbery gang victimizing returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and an in-law of former presidential daughter Lourdes "Luli" Arroyo. PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa said the PNP Highway Patrol Group neutralized members of the "Bundol Gang" that operates near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Manila Domestic Airport. Bundol gang robbers intentionally rear-end (bundol) the vehicles used by the victims to make them stop. The robbers would then hijack the vehicles and leave behind their victims. "This same gang is believed responsible in a string of robbery-holdup cases including the shooting of the brother-in-law of former presidential daughter Luli Arroyo, and several other cases of highway robbery," he said in a statement on the PNP website. He said the PNP-HPG operatives caught up with members of the gang, who were aboard three separate cars and three motorcycle back-ups, along Airport Road in Pasay City. At the time, the gang members have just allegedly held-up another victim, Verzosa said. The suspects engaged police in a brief car chase and exchange of gunfire that ended in South Greenpark Subdivision in Merville, Parañaque City. Those wounded and arrested were Raul Lumantas, Junreal Abel Gumanay, and Cirilo Paja. Recovered from them were an M-16 rifle, two cal.-45 pistols and grenades. Verzosa ordered the HPG and other concerned PNP Units to conduct follow-up operations to account for the remaining members of the syndicate and "completely neutralize the operations of this group." –VVP, GMANews.TV
