3 NPA rebs killed in clash with soldiers in CamSur

Three communist rebels were killed Sunday night in an encounter with government forces in Bula town in Camarines Sur province after their location was tipped off by an informer to the authorities, the military reported Monday. The clash also resulted in the wounding of one soldier, Pfc. Marciano Alguera, who was hit by a bullet in the abdomen and was rushed to the hospital of the 9th Infantry Division in Pili town, Camarines Norte, where he was declared out of danger. Lt. Col. Ernesto Cruz, commander of the Army’s 42nd Infantry Battalion, said the clash occurred after he deployed his men at Lubgan village to arrest a group of New Peoples’ Army (NPA) there. He said a tipster informed him of the presence of the rebels in the area. “My informant texted me that six bandits belonging to the Kilusang Sangay sa Platun (KSPN) 74 were forcibly collecting food provisions from them. I promptly sent a squad of my soldiers to apprehend the rebels," said Cruz. At around 7 p.m., the approaching troops, led by 1Lt. Nyro Jimenez, were fired upon by the rebels, resulting in a 10-minute firefight. When the smoke cleared, the troops found the bodies of the three slain rebels as well as three rifles and a sub-machinegun. - KBK, GMANews.TV
