Barangay chief killed in Batangas ambush

Police in Batangas province are now tracking down motorcycle-riding men who shot dead a barangay (village) chief and wounded a tricycle driver in an ambush in Mabini town late Monday afternoon. Radio dzBB on Tuesday reported the incident that killed village chairman Joseph Sandoval, 44, occurred around 5 p.m. Monday in Pulong Niyogan village. Wounded in the incident was tricycle driver Ali Aranas. An initial investigation showed the victims were on Aranas’ tricycle when the suspects blocked their path and opened fire. Sandoval succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head. Police are still determining the motive behind the incident. — LBG, GMANews.TV
