After 2 days of training, Pacquiao resumes congressional duties

On the third day, Manny Pacquiao rested. The Filipino boxing superstar opted to skip training Wednesday after sweating it out for two straight days at the Elorde gym in Quezon City. Instead, Pacquiao rested his body and concentrated on his work at Congress. The decision to cancel training came at the last minute following a call Pacquiao made on Filipino training assistant Buboy Fernandez, who was already at the gym by that time. Pacquiao surprised many people when he began training with Fernandez at the same boxing gym owned by Bebot Elorde last Monday and Tuesday since official training camp for his Nov. 13 title fight with Mexican Antonio Margarito won’t begin until Sept. 20. Saved for sparring, the 31-year old pound-for-pound king did everything he was supposed to do at the gym, from shadow boxing and skipping rope to pounding the mitts. Conditioning coach Alex Ariza already arrived in the country last Monday, but has not begun working with the Pacman yet, opting to take a rest first before plunging into a grueling, eight-week training camp in the mountains of Baguio. Chief trainer Freddie Roach is set to plane in on Sunday, just in time for the start of the camp. - RCJ, GMANews.TV
