FEU-La Salle 2nd quarter highlights
La Salle turned the tables on FEU in the second period. The Green Archers tightened up their pressing defense and held the Tamaraws without a field goal for nearly the entire quarter. Reil Cervantes gave FEU its firts field goal of the quarter. He picked up his own miss and scored a put back for the Tamaraws, who suddenly lost an eight-point first-quarter lead and found themselves trailing, 26-30, 51 seconds left before the break. While the Green Archers’ defense caught the Tamaraws flatfooted, the Taft-based dribblers seized the momentum to unleash their fast-breaking game. They started the second period with a mini-run, a 10-2 spurt, capped by Simon Atkins’ triple, a Joshua Webb basket and a split from the charity line from Sam Marata off a technical foul called on FEU athletic director Bert Flores, allowing the Green Archers to knot the score for the first time, 22-all, 6:24 left in the second period. While FEU became emotional, La Salle stayed focus and performed according to game plan. The Green Archers continued their onslaught when JR Cawaling was thrown out of the game for giving a hard foul and a second motion against Atkins in the 4:27 mark of the second period. Atkins’ two free throws, rewarded to him on an unsportsmanlike foul called on Cawaling, gave the Green Archers their first taste of the lead, 24-22. Luis Dela Paz’s triple and split free throws sandwiched Yutien’s Andrada’s put back as La Salle tasted its first sizeable lead, 30-22. - RCJ, GMANews.TV
