Davis Cup: Mamiit, Huey face tough Korean foes


Fil-Am Treat Huey will bank on his experience playing in previous Davis Cup tie when he sees action at the start of the 2010 Asia Oceania Zone Group I Davis Cup tie Friday at the 1,600-seater Chanwon Municipat Tennis Court, in Chanwon, Korea. The draw ceremony was held Thursday with the 25-year-old Huey facing Korean top seed Yong Kyu Lim in the first singles. RP top netter Cecil Mamiit takes the court next as he faces Jeong Suk Young in the second singles to complete the first of three-day tennis action. The tie is very important for both teams because the winner will remain in Group I while the loser will be relegated to Group II in the 2011 Davis Cup. Tasked to carry the Philippines in the doubles competition Saturday are Johnny Arcilla and Elbert Anasta, who will face Hyun Joon Kim and Jae Min Seol. The reversed singles will be held Sunday with Mamiit taking on Yong and Huey facing Jeong. “The team is ready," declared team manager Jean Henri Lhuillier. The Philippines dropped to the relegation tie after losing to Japan (5-0) and Chinese Taipei (4-1). Both tie saw Huey playing the first singles and in both occasions, he bowed to superb opponents. Yong is rated higher than Huey as the Korean is ranked 313th in the world. The Fil-Am netter is rated 722nd. Mamiit, on the other hand, is favorted to win over Jeong, a rookie in the Davis Cup. - RCJ, GMANews.TV
