High school student stabs teacher to death

A 14-year-old high school student allegedly killed his teacher in Caloocan City on Friday, with just one knife stab at the back, because she threatened to kick him out of school due to his long hair, a television report said. Teodora Soner, a teacher from the Manuel Luis Quezon High School, died of stab wounds after she was attacked with a kitchen knife in Barangay 185 in Tala, Caloocan City at 5:30 a.m. Friday, GMA News’ Bernadette Reyes said in a report. The suspect, a minor whose identity was thus concealed, allegedly planned the attack after Soner supposedly threatened to kick him out of school because he refused to cut his hair.
According to the report, the suspect even approached Normina Buenaobra, his class adviser, on Thursday to verify if he will be indeed “dropped out" due to his long hair. “Hindi naman po totoo na ida-drop siya. Panakot lang sa kanya, kasi matagal na siyang sinisita sa buhok niya," Buenaobra said in an interview aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras." (It’s not true he’ll be dropped. That was just a threat because he had long been warned about his long hair.) The student reportedly waylaid Soner along Ascorville Road and attempted to stab her twice, before he finally cornered and fatally wounded her at the back. “Inistab at the back. Isa lang po at the back pero fatal po siya. Kasi ‘yung knife po, almost six inches," Police Chief Inspector Moner Orang of the Caloocan Police Sub-Station 4 said in a separate television interview. (She was stabbed at the back. Just once at the back, but it was fatal, because the knife was almost six inches long.) Soner was rushed to the Tala Hospital after the incident, but was declared dead on arrival. Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro said he plans to visit the suspect for counseling. “Mayroon tayong early detection signs kung ‘yung galit, sumosobra na (We have early detection signs when anger starts to boil over). It’s more of the early detection of the personality," Luistro said in a separate television interview. Since the suspect is a minor, he will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development while the case is being investigated, according to the report.—Andreo C. Calonzo/JV, GMANews.TV
