V-League: Lady Stags outlast Lady Falcons in Game 2

Playing with their backs against the wall, the San Sebastian Lady Stags fought their way back and survived for another day in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference. Behind the power game of Thai import Jeng Bualee and NCAA MVP Joy Benito, the Lady Stags outlasted the Adamson Lady Falcons, 24-26, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20, Sunday, at The Arena in San Juan City. The Lady Stags and the Lady Falcons battle it out in a winner-take-all championship match on Thursday. Bualee scored 26 hits and a block while Benito chipped in 16 hits, two blocks and an ace to spearhead the Lady Stags victory. It was the first win by San Sebastian over Adamson, which defeated the former in their first three encounters. “One more game. We made some adjustments after losing Game One," said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb. “But this victory won’t matter if we lose on Thursday." The Lady Stags lost the first set after the Lady Falcons rallied to clinch the first set, but Benito made her presence felt in the next two sets, capped by back-to-back hits in the third frame, to give his team a 2-1 lead. Earlier, San Sebastian College’s Suzanne Roces bested Bualee and Lyceum guest player and former league MVP Mary Jean Balse for the Most Valuable Player of the Conference award of the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference. It was Roces’ second time to win the prestigious individual plum. She bagged her first MVP of the Conference award during the 2008 first conference while leading the Lady Stags to their first ever league title. Bualee became the second player from the Lady Stags squad to win an individual award as she was named the conference’s Best Scorer while Balse was chosen as the conference Best Attacker. - RCJ, GMANews.TV
