Coast Guard: 15 Chinese, Koreans rescued off Boracay


At least 15 Chinese and Korean vacationers were rescued after the four sailboats they were riding capsized off Boracay. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)on Friday cited belated reports that the incident occurred 700 meters off Balabag village, Boracay, Aklan at around 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. "Investigation revealed that the said passengers hired the sailboats identified as Nature, Bumble Bee, Ryan and an unmarked one for island hopping at vicinity Boracay Island. While sailing, the sailboats were battered by strong winds and big waves causing said vessels to capsize," the Coast Guard said on its website. The Coast Guard's Field Station and Special Operations Group rushed to the site and rescued the passengers and crewmembers. The sailboats were towed to the shoreline of Station 2 of Boracay Island in Aklan. Search on for missing sailboat Meanwhile, the Coast Guard is still searching for two fishermen who went missing off Guimaras Strait in the Visayas. The Coast Guard said Salvador Molina, 55; and Charlet Madayag, 10, of Arevalo district in Iloilo City went fishing Tuesday but failed to return home. –VVP, GMANews.TV
