2 dead, 16 hurt in Davao jeep-truck collision

Loud music spelled doom for at least two people who were killed in a collision between an "uso-uso" jeep and a trailer truck in Davao City Friday. At least 16 were hurt in the accident, Mindanao Daily Mirror reported Saturday. In Davao, uso-uso jeepneys (a modified jeepney) have been a favorite transport utility by students because they travel fast and have loud music. The jeepney, loaded mostly with students, had just overtaken another vehicle on the Davao City-Digos City highway when the incident occurred. Police said the jeep was coming from Toril when it overtook another vehicle on the highway in Bago Gallera village in the city's Talomo district. An investigation report showed the jeep collided into a trailer truck traveling on the opposite direction heading Digos City. The truck was loaded with soft drink bottles. Accidents involving the uso-uso jeeps prompted Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to campaign against their use. — LBG, GMANews.TV
