SC urged to impose sanctions vs people behind DLSU blast

The Supreme Court must mete out sanctions on the people responsible for the violence that occurred after the Bar examinations last Sunday outside the De La Salle University campus in Manila. Thus said Marvic Leonen, dean of the University of the Philippines' College of Law, whose undergraduate was among the 47 people reportedly injured. "Dean of UP Law will request investigation and imposition of sanctions since the event took place very near our students and a UP undergrad was hurt," Leonen said in a text message to GMANews.TV on Monday. He did not identify the undergraduate who sustained injuries. For his part, UP Law professor and human rights lawyer Theodore Te told GMANews.TV that the law school is still preparing its official statement on the matter. The Supreme Court has administrative supervision of the yearly Bar exams. Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales is the chairman for this year's examinations, which were held on the four Sundays of September. GMANews.TV tried to contact court administrator and spokesman Jose Midas Marquez for comment, but he has not responded as of posting time. The victims were hurt when an explosion rocked an area near the DLSU campus inTaft Avenue. Warring fraternies were allegedly behind the violence. Sources told GMANews.TV the fraternities involved were Tau Gamma Phi and Alpha Kappa Rho. It was not clear if the explosion was caused by a pillbox or pyrotechnics. As of Saturday evening, investigators said they were verifying information that groups of men were seen hurling bottles at each other before the explosion occurred. Police have since tightened security around the area, even as authorities are zeroing in on two warring law fraternities. (See: Cops suspect law frats behind Bar exam blast) — RSJ, GMANews.TV
