First gun ban violator in Caraga an air gun holder
BUTUAN CITY- An air gun holder was the first violator in Caraga of the election gun ban â from September 25 to November 10 â for the October 25 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls. Butuan City Police Director Senior Supt. Bensons Leleng identified the suspect as Renzons Sobenosa Madaje, 22, of Barangay Villa Kanangga this city. He was arrested by a Butuan City Police mobile patrol team inside a night spot along Montilla Boulevard this city on Friday. According to Butuan City Police Station 1 Commander Supt. Joseph Boquiren, concerned citizens mistook the firearm tucked in the waist of the suspect was a .45 caliber pistol. They immediately called the cops and found out the suspect was carrying an air gun, not a .45 caliber pistol. Earlier, newly-installed Caraga Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Reynaldo Rafal warned air gun enthusiasts engaged in soft gun games in the city to refrain from bringing them to public places because they are not exempted from the gun ban. Leleng said a criminal charge is being readied against Madaje for allegedly violating section 2, paragraph B of Commission on Elections resolution 8714. For the May 10 local and national elections, nine violators, two of them law enforcers, were nabbed by joint Philippine National Police and military patrol teams for violating the gun ban. âVVP, GMANews.TV
