Angat shutdown won't affect power, water supply — Napocor

State-owned National Power Corp. on Monday said that the 218-megawatt Angat Hydroelectric Power Plant in Bulacan would shut down for two days without interrupting power and water supply. The shutdown will start Tuesday, Sept. 28, with the power plant’s bypass valve to its auxiliary unit undergoing repairs, Napocor said in a statement. Measures have been undertaken to ensure continuous supply of water for concessionaires Manila Water Co. Inc. and Maynilad Water Services Inc., Manila Water Sewerage System and the Common Purpose Facility, Napocor said. The repairs are needed to keep the integrity of the level of control over the water supply in the reservoir intact, Napocor said. The Angat Dam has a multipurpose reservoir that provides 97 percent of Metro Manila’s water supply. In an agreement signed with its concessionaires, Napocor said in its statement, the first day of shutdown would have no effect on concessionaires. However, if after the first day of repairs unforeseen events delay the planned 48-hour repairs, Napocor will abort the repairs. The parties agreed that during the second day of repairs Manila’s requirement of 2,150 million liters a day would be sourced from dedicated aqueducts and Manila Water’s requirements would be sourced from both its own dedicated aqueducts and the La Mesa Dam. —VS, GMANews.TV
