A resident was killed while 22 others were hospitalized after eating a butete (puffer fish) dish in Palawan province. Radio dzBB’s Palawan affiliate reported early Tuesday that the incident occurred in Malis village in Brooke’s Point town. Sketchy initial reports indicated the 23 residents were rushed to the Southern Palawan Provincial Hospital after eating the dish. One of them initially identified only as Bandog succumbed to stomach pains, while many of those rushed to the hospital had been discharged. The incident prompted local officials to remind residents not to eat puffer fish. Brooke’s Point is a first-class town with a population of 48,928 people in 9,634 households. — LBG/RSJ,GMANews.TV
