Residents line up for water ration in Quezon City

Residents in barangays affected by a four-day water service interruption have began to line up for their water ration on Tuesday morning after the Angat Hydroelectric Power Plant was shut down around 6:00 a.m., a television report said. GMA News’ Unang Balita said consumers of Maynilad water services in Barangay Batasan Hills in Quezon City began to queue for their water ration. The community is among the 32 barangays (villages) in Metro Manila that are affected by the temporary water supply cut. The report said the affected barangays will either have no water coming out of their faucets or experience less water pressure. Unang Balita quoted Maynilad officials as saying the previously-announced water supply interruption was due to the scheduled maintenance work at the Angat Dam in Bulacan, which supplies over 90 percent of the Metro Manila’s water needs.
Some 32 barangays in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Las Piñas and Qeuzon City are directly affected by the water supply cut that will be restored on Saturday. GMA’s late-night news program Saksi on Monday said Maynilad would provide 24 water tankers to ration water to affected areas. Maynilad Water is one of two concessionaires of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS). It services the Metro Manila’s west sector. The MWSS said it is the best time "to conduct repair and maintenance work" at the Dam. A partial list of the affected communities posted on Maynilad's website dated September 24, includes the following barangays:

  • Caloocan City: Barangay Bagong Barrio
  • Valenzuela City: Barangays Maysan, Marulas, Karuhatan, Gen T. de Leon
  • Malabon City: Barangays Potrero, Tugatog, Acacia, Dampalit, Tanza, Tangos, Hulong Duhat, San Jose, Sipac-Almacen
  • Las Piñas: Barangays CAA (Upper portion), Talon 1 (Upper portion)
  • Quezon City: Barangays Batasan Hills, Bagong Silangan, Holy Spirit, Nagkaisang Nayon — LBG, GMANews.TV
