Makati folk warned vs water from deep wells near West Tower condo
The city government of Makati on Tuesday warned its residents of possible contamination of water in deep wells near a condominium where a gas leak was discovered two months ago. Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. said the city health department is currently testing water samples from eight deep wells near the West Tower Condominium in Barangay Bangkal where a fuel leak occurred last July. “At the moment, we are strongly advising the residents not to use the water from deep wells until the city health department comes up with a conclusive finding on its safety," Binay said in a statement posted on the city’s website.
He, however, added that the possible contamination is limited only to water from deep wells. He said water supplied by Manila Water remains safe. The city government placed on Monday Barangay Bangkal under a state of calamity, two months after traces of petroleum products were discovered in the condominium building’s basement. The source of the gasoline leak has yet to be determined as of posting time. The city government formed last week an inter-agency task force to conduct soil testing in the area to trace the source of the leak. - AC/KBK, GMANews.TV
