Poll official bares lawsuit threats against him, wife

Election Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal on Tuesday said he and his wife have been receiving lawsuit threats from an anonymous caller in the past two days. An obviously emotional Larrazabal told reporters that he received a call on Monday from an “angry" caller who threatened to file a case against him. “Ang sabi sa akin, ‘Ang tigas ng ulo mo. Tingnan natin kung kakasuhan ka na (He told me that I was hardheaded and threatened to file a suit against me)," he said in a report on GMA News’ “24 Oras." Larrazabal added that his wife also received a call on Tuesday morning from an unidentified person who threatened to implicate her in the case that would be filed.

“The caller, who was using an unknown number, told my wife that because I was hardheaded, she will be implicated in the case," he said. Larrazabal said he suspects the threats had something to do with his job as commissioner of the Commission of Elections (Comelec). He challenged the person behind the anonymous calls to “be careful" about the threats he is making. “If people file frivolous and baseless lawsuits against me, they better prepare. They better be careful." Larrazabal, however, appealed to his detractors to spare his family from such harassment. “Please don’t go against my family. They have nothing to do with my work. But if he [caller] pursues this, I wouldn’t take it sitting down," he said. - Andreo Calonzo/KBK, GMANews.TV
