Coast Guard: Lightning kills fisherman, son off Catanduanes

A 44-year-old fisherman and his 10-year-old son were killed when lightning struck them while fishing off Catanduanes in Bicol last weekend. The Philippine Coast Guard on Wednesday cited belated reports indicating the incident occurred Saturday afternoon, and the bodies of the two were recovered separately. It said it initially learned of the incident after Commander Ivanhoe Arcilla of the 904th Squadron of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary at the Coast Guard Detachment in Virac reported the two were missing, at 1 p.m. Saturday. "According to Arcilla, he received a text message from a concerned citizen that the said the victims were hit by lightning while fishing on a paddle boat off Gigmoto," the Coast Guard said. Recovered off Gigmoto town in Catanduanes were Victor Cenon Jr., 44; and his son Mark Francis Cenon, 10. Rescue teams recovered the younger Cenon's body at 4 p.m. Saturday, and that of the elder Cenon at 4 p.m. Sunday. — LBG, GMANews.TV
