Phivolcs: Magnitude-5 quake rocks Samar area


A magnitude-5 quake rocked Northern Samar in Eastern Visayas Wednesday morning, but state seismologists said no damage or casualty was reported. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 10:19 a.m. with the epicenter at 43 km northwest of Catarman, Northern Samar. Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic but did not specify the areas and what intensity it was felt. It also said there was no aftershock expected. The United States Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 4.8. USGS said the epicenter was 115 km north of Calbayog (Samar), 115 km east of Legazpi (Albay), 125 km south-southeast of Pandan (Catanduanes), or 445 km east southeast of Manila. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
