Senate authorizes livestreaming of proceedings

The Senate has adopted a resolution authorizing the livestreaming of selected plenary proceedings and committee hearings and meetings, Senator Francis Pangilinan said Wednesday. “We welcome this development and this will be a major step towards accountability and transparency in government, both of which the Aquino administration espouses," said Pangilinan, who authored Senate Resolution No. 53. He said a feasibility study and pilot testing will first be done on the Philippine Senate website to ensure the cost-effectiveness of recording and livestreaming proceedings. “Livestreaming will enable our countrymen to participate in governance and be informed of how their elected officials do their duty to country and fellowmen. It also brings our OFWs closer to their countrymen as they can easily access the proceedings wherever internet is available," he said. —Kimberly Jane Tan/VS, GMANews.TV
